Some Days Are Harder Than Others

Heartbroken

Feeling

A little blue

Slapped in the face,

Embarrassed to think

I was on a cloud

I was self-proud

For awhile

In a flash

Ever so quickly

I crashed and

Came tumbling down

Back to earth

Ouch! That hurt

Stand up again

Pick up the

Pieces what’re left

If any of

My own self-respect

This dream of mine

Will come true

I won’t give up

I refuse to

I’ll go on

I always do

Has this ever

Happened to you?

Sometimes it takes a friend or a new found acquaintance to point out flaws that we ourselves cannot see. This happened to me today, and I am grateful to this person in many ways. So even though this piece sounds terribly depressing, it isn’t so. For me it is just a learning process.

I'm so glad I'm the one who wished you good luck and to not break a leg! You are correct it might hurt sometimes but if the person means well then it's A-OK. Great hub my friend:))

Heeey Susan - this hub makes me sad:). Yes - you know this has happened to me - someone actually said I was LAME before - actually it was the first comment I ever got! But after I dusted myself off - I decided I wasn't gonna give up either. I'm glad because I met up with you!!

I am so glad you have Sunshine too:)

I think most of us have felt that way at times and a friend to listen or talk to can make a huge difference. Our best lessons are learned through the painful experiences. Great hub.

I think wev'e all been there. All it takes is a few words from a friend to pick us up so that we can start again and not give up until we accomplish what we set out to do

Liked the poem

This is so very true! We may be embarrassed at the time, but we definitely learn from our mistakes, and that's what life is: a learning process! We become better through our experiences and stronger as well. I enjoyed this poem and voted "up"!

I think every writer - actually every person - has these experiences, and as your poem says the trick is to not give up. It’s great that you could end up feeling grateful to the person, that’s how we grow as writers and as people isn’t it?

I agree with Snurre that the broken structure works well with the words.

Thanks for this hub.

I almost didn't read this because I've had many hard days recently. I am so happy I did stop to read especially your explanation at the end..."sometimes it takes a friend". I also had comments to come from people who are not friends and who didn't mean me good, but they made me stop and reflect. However today, you are that friend for me and I thank you very much for sharing this. Really helped. Voted up.

A wonderful poem and your words are true. When we are first told about our flaws, it can seem like the end of the world and that we'll never get over it. But we do, and more often than not, when we rectify these flaws, it is such a liberating experience.

Wonderful hub + voted up awesome!!

It's always a pleasure to learn about self more than one has already realized. Since it came from someone else and not you learning it yourself, then the fall had to hurt quite a bit. I'm glad you were able to see it for what the person was saying, because it shows you can recognize truth when it's laid at your feet. Nicely written. :)

What a powerful piece... and a good lesson to be learned. Sure, life can get hard, but it takes a strong person to stand up, brush off the dust and carry on. Absolutley loved this!

Now I found something in your writing of poetry something that hasn't truly occurred to me before. I always tend to use a great deal of words to express something, you expressed a great deal of things with very little words or effort, but at the same time it takes a great deal of thought power to pull something of this magnitude together.

A masterpiece is what I just read here, & I'm not blowing smoke at you, because I been writing and reading poetry all my life since a child in grade school. With all that experience behind my belt I do find your grip on words is much deeper than most writers for sure, maybe its your personality or perspective view on reality, but whatever it is you got a gift with words that's profound to say the least, because this is hard to do, what you've just done with this beautiful hub, its short its sweet and to the point.

I don't know how you do this, but if you started a writing/creative writing class or school, I would definitely attend and be at the front seat of the class, just to absorb your teaching. Voted Up on all levels, Wow I'm coming back to read it again, and I'll watch the video next time as well.

Hi Susan,

I can easily get very defensive when someone points something out to me. My best friend does this often and I have to remind myself that it is never her intent to hurt me. She's cares and is looking out for me. But, as you say "some days are harder than others."

Sharyn

Just Ask Susan profile image

Sharyn, I too get defensive but then I step back and think about what has been said to me. Many times I see where the other person is coming from and end up agreeing with them. Thanks for reading and your comments are always very appreciated.
