SNAP How to Play This Classic Card Game
66
Playing cards games has always been a favorite past time of mine. My grandfather introduced me to many games at a very young age. He taught me how to play Snap, Crazy 8’s, Rumoli, Gin Rummy, Rummy 500, Black Jack and other various poker games.
The game of Snap has many various names, which include Slapjack, Irish Snap, Slaps and Heart Attack. For many children this is the first card game that they learn how to play. This game can either be played with a regular 52-card deck or there are children’s decks with colorful animal pictures or characters. Snap can be played with two or more people.
The object of this game is to win all the cards in the deck. Cards are dealt face down to each person creating equal stacks. If there were two people playing each person would have 26 cards. The first person lays his card face up in the middle of the table from the top of his or her stack. Each person follows consecutively adding to the cards in play. Everyone is watching the cards very carefully because if one card that is played on top of the cards in the middle of the table that is the same card such as an ace on an ace, the first person to slap the cards and yell “SNAP” wins the pile. The game continues until one person has won all the cards in the deck.
In Irish Snap the object of the game is to be the first player to lose all your cards first.
Slapjack is played in the same way as snap, except the only time that someone can win the middle stack of cards is when a Jack is placed on the pile and someone places his hand on the stack saying Slapjack. The first person to do this gets to keep the pile, shuffle it and then add it to the bottom of their stack. When a player has run out of cards they have one last chance to get back into the game if they are the first to slap the next jack that is played on the pile otherwise they are out of the game. To win at Slapjack you must have the entire deck.
Rules and the way in which people play these games can differ. I would really be interested in knowing how you play the game of Snap, so please feel free to let me know in the comment box below.

Gotta try this game esp with the summer holidays approaching :) Thanks Susan!
Voted up!!
That is a good one Susan! I love the activities that they can get lost in. I AM going to try that too:) yay! I just realized, I haven't gotten my new puzzle book in the mail - maybe it will come today! I think that will have them going for a while too:)
I have never heard of nor played Snap before. Certianly looks like a game I would enjoy! Thanks for sharing!
Susan...I just checked out the video...Lol...No not that game. Spoons is fun for any age and can get very competitive....give it a try....
I must have played Snap thousands of times when I was a kid in Scotland :) Excellent hub.
Love these games. I had forgotten until I read this article something to teach my child.
I have actually never played Snap - however I have played versions of slapjack - usually with a fun kids deck of cards. And war - I love war! Although like the other games, it is one of those that goes on forever and ever and ever.
As for one of my favorite card games - Old Maid! I should check to see if I can find it. I think the kids would enjoy a game of old maid!
Great idea.... I am going to teach them tonight! LOL
I have never heard of this game and you did an excellent job describing it. Really interesting hub.

I have not heard of this game, I love card games. And since it is still around, I need to check it out. Thanks!
Hi Susan, here in Jamaica we have a similar game called 'Strip me'. Each suite has a value. Ace = 4 regular cards, King = 3, Queen = 2 and Jack = 1. When someone plays a suite you pay them for it and the collect the the pack until one person has won all the cards.
I have never heard of SNAP but I loved playing SlapJack as a kid. I had forgotten about that game and am now excited to teach it to my kids. I'll be checking out SNAP too. Thanks for the great hub.
I have not heard of Snap. I think my g-kids would like this one. Thank you for sharing

Wow. This brings back memories of my childhood. I haven't played snap for absolute years. This hub has bought it all back and made me want to now. It always got the adrenaline flowing in our house, and we all made a lot of noise. Vote UP and awesome
I've never played Snap, but i love to play cards. Thank's for the info.
I remember playing this game many years ago and it was so much fun. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
SNAP sounds like fun, because I did not like WAR, since it never ended. No one could seem to win all the other player's cards, so it was interminable, but a good way to keep kids occupied for a couple hours. Rated up!
I had great fun playing Snap with my friends when I was a child. In fact, it's the only card game that I've ever played! Thanks for the memories.
Have never heard of Snap; have heard of slapjack, but don't remember playing it. House of cards??? LOL...not with 4 cats in the house! Hee hee!
My own hands aren't that steady, anyway. I like to play 21 on my computer, but I wouldn't dare play for money...I'm nowhere near that good!
Fun hub... I'll have to go drag out the cribbage board, now!
Just think, a whole generation of kids first introduction to playing cards is on the computer. Hopefully, their parents will have a pack of cards around the house.
I used to love making houses of cards. Ah...the things we did before the Internet :)
Thanks for the info on a game that's new to me. Great video too. You have a clear, concise way of explaining things!
Boy, did you bring back memories! For both. I can't tell you how many games of slapjack I played growing up and it was a favorite of my kids as well. :)
