Romantic Dinner For Two At Home On Valentine's Day
78Candlelit Dinner
Valentine’s Day dinners have become a traditional feast at my house. We used to always go out to a restaurant but found that after having our children it was easier to stay home and we saved quite a bit of money. Even though they are now grown, we still enjoy a nice romantic candlelit dinner in the comfort of our own home.
I remember the first Valentine’s Day dinner I planned at home. My husband was a little shocked when he asked me where I would like to go for dinner, and my reply was that I wanted to stay home. We enjoyed this so much that we now plan the meal together and shop for what we want to have for our special dinner.
How To Plan A Romantic Dinner For 2 Around Children
- Feed the children first, and have your dinner later in the evening when the children are in bed.
- Decide what room you are going to have your dinner in and tell the children that Mommy and Daddy are celebrating Valentine’s Day. Make sure you say that you want to be alone, and to please not interrupt them. (One year this did not work out well at all for us with our youngest)
- Set up a table in your bedroom and lock the door.
- Ask a single relative or friend that is free that night to baby-sit at their house. Offer them a nice reward.
- Rent movies for the children and have them stay in the living or family room.
Reasons you may want to stay home this year
- Restaurants are crowded and the wait times are insane
- Dinning at home costs less
- Drinking and driving is a no no
- Save on a babysitter
- Dress as you so choose
- Planning a menu can be quite fun together
- You can pick the music of your choice
- You don't have to go out into the cold after a nice meal
- Less chance of food poisoning
- You can kick your shoes off
- Eat with your hands if you so choose

I have to agree, Valentines date at home can be personalized. That way, you are able to show how much you love your hubby/wife/partner because of the effort you exerted in making 02/14 a night to remember :). Love your tips, Imma share to other guys who wants to make their their happier without shelling out a huge amount of money on their pockets. :)
Great ideas! My husband and I eat at home on Valentine's Day; he makes excellent lobster tails and we eat by candlelight. I like the idea of asking the kids to not interrupt the parents while they're eating, but with two little ones under 3.5, it's nearly impossible.
Voted up!
Great tips! I'm terrible at cooking seafood, but I might try to do some steaks this year. =P Voted up!
This sounds wonderful :-) We do not celebrate Valentines Day, but I would love to plan a special evening like that no matter what! I might just have to do that except on a random day :-) Great tips!
this is a practical way to celebrate Valentine's day...thank you for sharing this...now, i'll be looking forward to it...
I need to get cracking don't I, it's not long away is it?! I love your YouTube - I adore that song. Fortunately we tell each other everyday that we love each other. I am so lucky that he tells me in so many unexpected and different ways!
I love this idea....only I would definitely do my own cooking...with a good wine and a yummy chocolate dessert.
Susan you're such a romantic..I love it..Great ideas..I like the one about eating out..HaHa..Thank you..
This is what I like to read about, a woman that doesn't need a lot spent on them for V. day. The thought and effort to create and sustain the mood is more important. A little practicality thrown in as well.
Where were you when I used to date?
...as always my esteemed colleague and fellow Canadian a first class presentation .....but I would like to think that most couples can find a way to celebrate Valentine's day on any day of the year ......

Hi Susan, I love your menu for valentines day, please can I book a table for 2?!!!
We always stay in on valentines and have a romantic dinner for 2, I might just use your menu this year!
Voting up.
This is also what we do. We like crab legs and a nice charbroiled steak, medium rare. Then we watch 'our' movie!
Hey, great hub! I also want to link this one to my second Valentine's hub which include cheap romantic things to do for Valentine's Day. I always prefer a romantic dinner for two at home as opposed to going out. This hub is perfect, Susan!
This was romantic moment for celebrating Valentine's Day. I think many couple will dream about this. Very inspiring hub. Well done and rated up!

Susan what a wonderful share period! :)
Ooh la la! I will remember this Hub for the future because sadly I dont get Valentine's Day alone with the hubby. We make it a family deal with the kids. Wow, thats a real eye-opener for me hahah Maybe we need to plan more alone time.
Such a nice hub! Some of my favorite Valentine's Day dinners have been the ones that my husband and I cooked ourselves. We've done surf and turf, too - lobster risotto as a first course followed by beef tenderloin with bordelais sauce. Yum! And, yes, Van Morrison has made the Valentine's Day playlist at my house, too. Great song!
This sounds really nice. I might just try it this year.
A romantic dinner for two, candlelight, wine and soft music...sounds perfect! And guys who bring a single rose and chocolate are certain to get a gold star, too!
Susan, really enjoyed this, couldn't get past your menu! it sounds a fantastic way to spend the evening, just hope you don't eat too much so it spoils your dessert lol. Voted up-awesome :)
Great hub - as parents of 4 kids, we find it difficult to plan/enjoy Valentine's Day. Even with a teenager that can now babysit. Perhaps we should just bite the bullet and make some plans... course, we'd have to send the kids off to spend the night somewhere to have a romantic night at home! Lots of great ideas here Cheers, Steph
Hi Susan, thanks for your great hub, I think a lot of us are thinking a bit the same this year for Valentines with ways to do it a bit simpler, great ideas, great music.
I've never liked Valentine's Day. Since my hubby is in the Army he's not normally home. He will be gone again this year too. I just don't see why we "need" a day to show someone we love them when it should be every day :) Great hub though, and excellent ideas!
Hey! I thought this was new - I musta missed it!
Beautiful! I love having the dinner at home now too:) I kinda recreate Christmas with hearts! lol I never thought about adding lobster tails to the menu but I am this year! I bet you the girls will get a huge kick out of that and they love lobster:) Thanks!!!
I think I might have to do this for our Valentines celebration this year! Maybe I will do the Fondu... it has been awhile since we did homemade fondu. Thanks for the great suggestion!
