Child's Play Children's Books Featuring Puzzle Island

By Just Ask Susan

Child’s Play has been publishing children’s books for over thirty years now. My children grew up on these inspirational books and I can attest to the quality and magnificent learning exposure children from all over the world experience from Child’s Play books. You will find these books in libraries, classrooms and can purchase them online and through home parties.

There is no such thing as a child being too young to read to. From the time they are born we, as parents should be conditioning them to read by reading to them. Bonding with your child and giving them a secure and loving home environment leads to healthy development. Reading with or to your child is a happy fun time. Through pictures and words that you as the parent are showing the child and how they hear your voice enables them to understand. Let’s face it children love to be read to. Reading together with your child develops language skills, which in turn is needed for the child to learn how to read.

When a child learns to read it builds listening skills, attention span, and increases the child’s potential for success academically. Reading also develops imagination and creativity.

Here Are A Few of Child's Play Books

Baby Board Books is a set of 14 books that are specifically for babies. These books include nursery rhymes and songs to sing exposing the child to sounds and speech patterns.

Bath Books

There are several different books to choose from in this category. My favorite was always Wally Whale and his Friends. My sons would know that it was bath time when I would grab this book from their room. Illustrated by Pam Adams Wally the Whale squeaks and spouts water making bath time so much fun. This book is recommended for ages 0 – 3.

Counting Books

There Were Ten In The Bed

This book is a singsong book that teaches children ages 3 – 6 how to count backwards. The song goes like this: “There were ten in the bed and the little one said roll over, roll over. So they all rolled over and one fell out. There were nine in the bed…..and so on. The book itself has a dial and as the dial turns the children tumble out of bed.

These are just a few of the books that are available. To see a full listing please go to Child’s Play. If you home school there are many books, games and flash cards that you will want to see.

Puzzle Island

My all time favorite book from Child’s Play is Puzzle Island by Paul Asheed. This book is recommended for children ages 5 – 12. To be honest with you there are many adults that fall in love with this book. I always had it sitting out on my coffee table and anyone that would come over for a visit would pick up the book and usually not put it down for at least an hour.

The main objection in this book is to save a rare creature from extinction while traveling through Puzzle Island. On each page of the book there are letters that you make words from that are jumbled. You have to find animals within the pages hidden all over the place in a jungle setting, similar to Finding Waldo. Each time you turn the page the book becomes more and more challenging. There are messages to be assembled and secret coding. This book will keep children and adults entertained while using brainpower for weeks. One of the best things I enjoyed about this book is that we would sit around the coffee or kitchen table as a family and go through this book all working together.

All Child's Play books are beautifully illustrated and made to last for a few generations. I have all of my children's Child Play books that I have saved that are in excellent condition ready and waiting to enjoy with my future grandchildren.

I give books as gifts to my grandchildren rather than toys that are soon broken or forgotten. It's turned out to be a welcome tradition both to the kids and their parents.

Children love being read to! They'll sit there and listen, stare, and point. Thank you for the resources.

Hi Susan--well, you broke the ice for our first 'weekly topic inspiration'. Good hub--I love the topic and hope to get something written to add to this topic. Very nice write up.

Good morning, Susan. I love short stories for children; thus your hub is a gold mine. There are so relatively few well-written and inspirational stories for children, so this was a delightful read. Thank you!

L.L. Although I do not have grandchildren yet I know if I do books will be my gift of choice. Thanks for stopping by to read this.

A.A. I remember as a child my favorite book was Charlotte's Web and my first grade teacher read this to the class. I will never forgot that book.

Danette Puzzle Island was first published in 1990 and is still going strong.

Denise Thanks. When I first saw the topic for Children's books a light went off in my head as I used to sell these books through home parties back in the early 1990's.

Genna So nice to see you and thanks so much!

My wife always read to the kids when they were young.I remember one of my friends from college was planning to get a masters in philosophy and said when he had kids he would start reading Plato to them when they were born. I wonder if he ever did.

Mrs. Menagerie Puzzle Island to me is a classic as far as puzzle books go.

Awww I miss reading books with the girls! They loved it and especially Syd, she would have us read the same ones over and over and over - Dave seriously would recite Dr. Suess in his sleep:). Correctly too! Lol!

I've never seen puzzle island - I want to order it for my niece and nephew! It sounds like I Spy books?

Just Ask Susan Hub Author 12 months ago

RH I had to go and do a search on I Spy Books and yes I would say there is a similarity. If you do get this book for your niece and nephew, sit down with Dave and the girls and go through the book. You will probably want a copy for yourselves as well. It is very addicting and it takes quite a while to figure out how to save the rare creature from extinction.

I love Dr. Seuss too :)

I got the book today! And the kids had just left to spend the night at Daves sisters:(. I love it though! Haha! Very, very cool book, I'm really glad I got it. Excited to gift it to them when they get home. I love the illustrations, big pages and I love the way the pages feel. I know it's weird - but I like the heavier paper - like poster stock. Ever since I was a kid I have noticed stuff like that! Lol
